蛇床子提取物的主要有效成分含蒎烯、莰烯，異戊酸龍腦酯（bornyl isovalarate）、異龍腦(isoborneol)，甲氧基歐芹酚 (osthole)、蛇床明素（cindimine）、蛇床定（cnidiadin）、異虎耳草素（isopimpinelline）等。

作用:蛇床子素具有解痙、降血壓、抗心律失常、增強免疫功能及廣譜抗菌作用。溫腎壯陽，燥濕，祛風，殺虫。用於陽痿、宮冷、不孕、寒濕帶下、濕鼻腰痛；外治外陰濕疹，婦人陰癢，滴虫性陰道炎.

Cnidium may improve conditions including impotence, female infertility, vaginal itching, and yeast infections. It often causes a deterioration of symptoms in men with chronic spermatorrhea and premature ejaculation. 
Cnidium has some astringent quality, which means that it will help prevent premature ejaculation in men. Furthermore, Cnidium seed has disinfectant qualities and may be used externally as a wash on sores, particularly in the genital region.

Osthole is natural extracted form common cnidium. The leaf is alternate compound umbel inflorescence. Cremocarp,ellipsoidal,2-4 mm long, about 2 mm in diameter. Externally grayish-yellow or grayish-brown; with 2 outcurved stylopods at the summit, and sometimes with a fine fruit stalk at the base. dorsal surface of mericarps with five thin and longitudinal ridges, commissural surface flattened, with two brown and slightly raised longitudinal ribs.
