I. Basic Properties of La (Lanthanum) Target
Chemical Properties: Lanthanum is chemically active, slowly corrodes in cold water, and corrodes more rapidly in hot water. It can directly react with carbon, nitrogen, boron, selenium, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, halogens, etc. Its compounds are diamagnetic. Avoid contact with acids, oxides, halogens, as contact with heat, open flames, oxidants, and other substances may pose a hazard. It is typically stored in solid paraffin or immersed in kerosene and is susceptible to attack by inorganic acids.
Physical Properties: It has a silvery-gray luster, is relatively soft, with a density of 6.174g/cm³, a melting point of 921℃, and a boiling point of 3457℃. Its content in the Earth's crust is 0.00183%, second only to cerium among rare earth elements. The rare earth content is ≥99.99%, with an impurity content of 0.1%.
II. Application Fields of La (Lanthanum) Target
Catalysis: Used as a catalyst for various reactions, such as catalyzing the oxidation of carbon monoxide when doped with cadmium oxide, and catalyzing the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide to methane when doped with palladium. It is a highly effective selective catalyst for the oxidative coupling of methane to produce ethane and ethylene.
Magnet Manufacturing: Lanthanum oxide infiltrated with lithium oxide or zirconium oxide (1%) can be used to manufacture ferrite magnets.
Coating Applications: It has applications in coating technology, such as being used in numerous electronics and solar energy companies domestically and internationally. It may be used to prepare various thin film materials, although the specific application methods are similar to those of other target materials in coating applications. For example, it is placed in a vacuum chamber and bombarded by ion or electron beams to sputter lanthanum atoms, which are then deposited on a substrate material to form a thin film.
